A schoolgirl has died after being hit by a Mercedes van as she got off a bus, with police appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Lexi McDavid, from Huyton, near Liverpool, was seriously injured in the impact with the white van yesterday afternoon.
The 12-year-old was rushed to Alder Hay Children’s Hospital where she tragically died later that night.
The driver of the van remained at the scene of the incident, which took place in Princess Drive in the town at around 3.30pm, and is helping police with their enquiries.
Merseyside Police is appealing for anyone who saw what happened or has any dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
Floral and written tributes have been left at the scene of the crash, with mourners described her as a ‘beautiful angel’, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: ‘Our thoughts and condolences this morning are very much with the family of Lexi, who has lost her life at a tragically young age, and they are receiving the support of specialist officers.
‘An investigation is ongoing and we’d ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on dashcam or other devices and has yet to come forward does so as soon as possible. Your information could be vital to our investigation.
