A sixth-grade teacher from Denver, Colorado, is now the proud mother of a baby Gɪʀʟ, but her birth story turns out to be the furthest thing from her imagination. Lindsay Agbalokwu, who teaches English at DSST: Green Conservatory in Stapleton, thinks she has a little more time before her daughter arrives later this month. But on Friday, she was in for a one-of-a-kind sᴜʀᴘʀɪsᴇ when her young daughter decided to arrive early when her teacher suddenly ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀᴇᴅ her baby on the sidewalk outside her school.
According to Denver 7, Agbalokwu has until September 17, which is why she initially missed the labor due to Braxton Hicks contractions. But as it turned out, she was wrong. Agbalokwu continued his day as usual, even handing out awards at a school gathering. At that point, she realized she had misjudged her own pain. After the ceremony was over, she went back to her classroom and things “go from 0 to 100,”
“Suddenly it was so much pressure and pain, I was like, ‘I think she’s coming right now! I think we just need to call 911,’” she said.
Co-teacher Marissa Kast then alerted Principal Natalie Lewis and Dean of Students Chris Earls, who rushed to help Agbalokwu out of the building. But it wasn’t until then that the mother-to-be knew she was in real labor, as labor began to progress so quickly, Agbalokwu could barely move.
Acting quickly, Kast grabbed a sleeping bag from her car and set it down on the sidewalk for Agbalokwu to lie down on. Meanwhile, Lewis called 911. Agbalokwu recalls: “I lay down and we put the dispatcher on speakerphone, who started giving Natalie and Chris Dᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀʏ instructions,”
Fortunately, fireғɪɢʜᴛers arrived at the last minute and helped the teacher out of the water. But even so, the group had a few “minutes of ᴛᴇʀʀɪʙʟᴇ pain” there, while Lewis tried to train Agbalokwu to work through her grief.
As for any embarrassment she might be feeling at the moment? It happened right outside the window, the new mother said.
“I was in so much pain, I didn’t care that these people were my bosses – they were both parents. They were my supporters,” Agbalokwu told The Daily Mail.
Moments later, baby Zara was born, just outside her mother’s school. Of course, they weren’t there for long – both mother and child were quickly rushed to the hospital for further care. “I just love randomly thinking about it and texting my mom, ‘I just gave birth on the sidewalk outside my school!, That’s crazy!”, she told reporters.
Agbalokwu and Zara are currently at home with the rest of the family, Agbalokwu’s husband and their 17-month-old son, but she doesn’t think she’ll get over her daughter’s one-of-a-kind birth story anytime soon. me.
