A mother who gave birth to six babies has shown off her adorable sextuplets for the first time. Thelma Chiaka celebrated her first Mother’s Day as a parent by proudly showing off her three sets of twins, made up of two girls and four boys.
Thelma Chiaka has earned the ɴᴏɴ-ᴇxɪsᴛᴇɴᴛ title of ‘World’s Champion of Childbirth’ after giving birth to six babies in less than 10 minutes. The babies weighed between 1lb 12oz and 2lb and 14oz and were all in a stable condition in the ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ’s advanced neonatal intensive care unit. Chiaka stated that she had no idea she was delivering six children. According to her, an initial sᴄᴀɴ revealed that they were expecting four children, and they were given the surprise of a lifetime on the day of the birth. She said: ” We didn’t know we were having 6 babies. Initial sᴄᴀɴ showed 4. We only got to know they were six on the day of delivery. I was so excited having waited for some time for God to bless us with such beautiful gifts.”
Zuriel has since gone home, with the others set to be discharged from ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ in the coming weeks, so they can begin their new life together. Chiaka said:” I feel blessed having such beautiful babies. Mother’s Day has been an awesome experience for me. I have always looked forward to getting pregnant, so when it came, I embraced it with all the love I have. Motherhood made me realize the amount of inner strength that I never knew I had. Being a mother has taught me patience, kindness, selflessness, and dedication. Motherhood is more than wearing the title, its about wanting more for your children even if it is more than you’ve had.”
Dr Ziad Haidar hailing Chiaka’s positive attitude to pregnancy and childbirth. He said: ” Miss Thelma, she was a champion because she kept her smile until the last minute. She had her smile all over the pregnancy and it wasn’t an easy pregnancy on her, but she did wonderful.”
