The triplets were born last Wednesday and will now be guests of honour at their parents rearranged wedding next year. The great news caused the couple from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to postpone their big day, which had already been booked and paid for, because Marie could no longer wear her wedding dress.
After eight years of unsuccessful attempts to have a baby, Marie Mellor believes ғᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ treatment is the only way to conceive. Nature, however, had other plans but got its timing a little awry. When she and her fiancé Marc Hutchinson eventually turned to I.V.F, they ended up conceiving one child through the NHS treatment – and two more naturally as part of the same pregnancy.
Mellor, who was born with sᴘɪɴᴀ ʙɪғɪᴅᴀ, suffers from ᴇɴᴅᴏᴍᴇᴛʀɪᴏsɪs, a common condition in which small pieces of the ᴡᴏᴍʙ ʟɪɴɪɴɢ are found outside the womb. As a result she also had ᴏᴠᴀʀɪᴀɴ ᴄʏsᴛs and was told her ғᴀʟʟᴏᴘɪᴀɴ ᴛᴜʙᴇs were blocked. The couple began ғᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ treatment in October last year and were delighted when Miss Mellor became pregnant in March after the second round of I.V.F. They went for the first scan at seven weeks, and were astonished to be told there were three heartbeats.
Mellor said: ” When we saw the scan we just could not believe it, we were both speechless for a second. The doctors are completely baffled at how I’ve managed to conceive with blocked ғᴀʟʟᴏᴘɪᴀɴ ᴛᴜʙᴇs, it’s a complete mystery. They are my miracle babies. This time last year, I daren’t even dream of having one baby, and now I have got three – two of who were not created by I.V.F. I was utterly speechless when they told us we were having triplets.”
Her husband Hutchinson, 30, a sales administrator, said: ” We are absolutely over the moon. I’m sure it will be tiring but I can’t wait until we can get them home and be a proper family. We’re going to need a bigger car.”
